The Best Four Family Road Trip Games
Written on July 07, 2012 by McCall Dudeck
The Boosterthon team is gearing up for our new character theme, Highway USA! Since many of our families will be taking their own road trip this summer, we thought we’d add some excitement to your long road trip with family-centered games.
So pack up the car, turn your electronics off, and show your children how to have fun the old-fashioned way!
The Longest Story Ever Told: This game is a great way to spark creativity! The goal is to have the entire car participate in telling a crazy, made-up story. Everyone takes turns telling one sentence of the story. There are
no rules for how the story should be told, and as a result, your story might get pretty silly! Make sure you’re map is handy, because you never know where the story will take you!
The License Plate Game: Printout a map of the 50 states and take it on your trip. As you travel, keep an eye on the different license plates that you see. Mark off each state as you find and keep track of how many different license plates you pass. This game is a great way to have fun and learn American geography. If you want a real challenge, quiz each other on the state capital after each state you mark off!
I’m going on a Picnic: This classic road trip game is a great way to practice the letters of the alphabet with your youngest kids, and to expand the vocabulary of your older children. It is as easy as ABC. Each person says, “I’m going on a picnic and I’m going to bring __________.” The first person brings an item that starts with “A,” like apples, and then the next person brings something that begins with the letter “B.” Go all the way through the alphabet, and then see what you can remember from your list!
Portable Bingo: Bingo is a great game for children of all ages and now you can play on a Boosterthon Bingo card! We have created a special Bingo card just for you. Print out the set, bring along some small sticky-notes, and get ready to say “BINGO!” The sticky notes are great because you won’t loose any pieces and you can use the board over and over. Did we mention this Bingo card is free? Enjoy! (Click to print 4 cards.)
Make lasting memories and help get your children excited about our new theme by taking a family road-trip of your own this summer.
