The Boosterthon Fun Run’s 10th Birthday!
Written on April 04, 2012 by Robert Walker
The Boosterthon Fun Run started eleven years ago in 2001 by our Founders Chris and Lyndie Carneal out of Chris’s college dorm room. What began as just an idea to make elementary school fundraising more fun, fitness and character-based, and hassle-free has now grown into an organization with 170 team members serving 430,000 students in 615 schools this year.
On April 15, 2002, just a few months after starting Booster, Chris hosted the first-ever Boosterthon Fun Run event at Shades Mountain Christian School in Birmingham, AL. Last weekend, on April 15th, Atlanta Boosterthon team members and their families gathered to celebrate the Boosterthon Fun Run’s 10th birthday. In full Booster fashion, we had a blast.
Children chased over-size soccer balls as team members played whiffle ball and cornhole. We
passed around slices of red, white, and blue Boosterthon cake and sang to our Fun Run soundtrack. As a gift, we presented Chris and Lyndie with a scrapbook of notes thanking them for the impact they’ve had on each one of us, their leadership, and the opportunity to help change the world. Everyone crowded under the pavilion as Chris shared the humbling journey of growing Boosterthon as a college student to where it is today. We all love the story of our beginning, but we’re also excited about our future impact in the years to come.
We usually make any excuse to gather as family and friends, but Boosterthon’s 10th birthday was particularly special.
Thanks to our wonderful schools for letting us serve you for over ten years. We look forward to serving you even better over the next decade!
Listen to Chris and Lyndie tell the Boosterthon story!
