As the semester comes to a close, we’re thrilled to look back at all of the success that Boosterthon Fun Run partners have had this past year. From playgrounds to technology, we’re beginning a new blog series featuring five stories about how schools are using their Boosterthon Fun Run funds.
Our first feature school is Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville, Texas.
When Covenant Christian Academy first hosted the Boosterthon Fun Run three years ago, they had no idea what to expect. In past fundraisers, they had not profited enough to make a significant impact on the school. Thinking they would make about $10,000-$15,000, they were amazed when they raised $54,000 in their first year. Since then, they have consistently achieved their incredible fundraising goals.
For 2010, the school leaders decided they would choose a specific, tangible item that the students could get excited about. For Covenant Christian Academy, that item was a new gymnasium for the lower school students.
To kick off the exciting Boosterthon Fun Run week, the school held the Pep Rally in the unfinished gym, so the students could see the results of their hard work.
“We’ve only had one gymnasium up until now. The school found it difficult to house all classes, practices and games for the lower, junior and high school in one location,” said Lisa Campanella, Development Director for the school. “Now that we have the new gym, the lower school students are able to call this gym their ‘home,’ without having to travel across the campus to the previous gym.”
In addition, the Boosterthon Fun Run team encouraged the students by spending the mornings interacting with them during PE. The students loved seeing that even at a young age, they are able to make a difference in the school and leave a legacy.
Covenant Christian is already planning for its next Boosterthon Fun Run in September. We can’t wait to see all of the great things they are able to do in the future.
Be on the lookout for the next featured school in our series to celebrate the success that Boosterthon schools have had this year.
